Pittsburgh Pizzeria Slapped With Consumer Alert
The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer warning for a popular Pittsburgh pizza place.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Pizza Romano on Atwood Street in Oakland for numerous health code violations.
An inspection on Thursday revealed numerous rodent droppings throughout the eatery, including but not limited to, food preparation areas, behind refrigeration units and cash counters. Exposed green bait used for the extermination of mice was present in the facility. A container of residential rodent spray was observed in the staff restroom. Loose meal bait was found stored int the bathroom and also used in the dry storage area.
The inspector noted that the pizzeria currently is not using a pest control company.

The meat slicer, potato punch and microwave all had excessive dry food residue.
An overhead wastewater leak from the upstairs apartments was leaking onto food preparation areas and food contact surfaces. Two buckets collecting waste-water were installed on the ceiling in critical areas of the kitchen.

Staff was not observed changing gloves during the inspection. Two employees were observed eating on food contact surfaces, on preparation coolers and on cutting boards.
A restaurant with a consumer alert placard is allowed to operate for a temporary period not exceeding 10 days. Another inspection is conducted either prior to the expiration of the temporary period upon request of the eatery owner or on the 10th day.
