Pittsburgh Police Officer Injured When Struck By Car: Latest Update
A robbery suspect struck a Pittsburgh police officer with a vehicle on Tuesday. Patch provides the latest details here.
PITTSBURGH, PA — A city police officer remains in serious but stable condition in a hospital trauma unit after being struck by a vehicle driven by a fleeing burglary suspect Tuesday. The suspect was apprehended a short time later.
The unidentified officer suffered a head laceration and a possible fractured ankle, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials.
Allegheny County police said their city counterparts investigating a recent burglary had identified the suspect as William Skinner, 36, of Pittsburgh, who already was wanted on multiple outstanding arrest warrants.

City detectives encountered Skinner in Beltzhoover in a Chevy Blazer. Police said that as detectives and uniformed officers approached the vehicle, Skinner turned it towards an officer and struck them.
Police fired their weapons at Skinner as his vehicle crashed into a wall, but he was not injured. He fled on foot toward Saw Mill Run Boulevard. While fleeing, he allegedly committed a robbery on that street and a burglary on nearby Cadet Street.

A manhunt ensured and Skinner was taken into custody a short time later along railroad tracks on the South Side.
Skinner has been charged with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary and fleeing and eluding.
