Pittsburgh Police Officer Struck By Car

PITTSBURGH, PA — A city police officer was struck by a vehicle and injured Tuesday in the city's South Hills while attempting to apprehend a man wanted in connection with a burglary.

The officer's condition is unknown.

As the suspected burglar fled and the officer was struck by the vehicle, police fired toward the man. He was not hit by the gunfire, nor did he return it, police said.

The suspect, who has yet to be identified, was arrested a short time later along railroad tracks on the South Side.

The man is believed to be wanted in connection with a burglary that occurred at a business early Tuesday in the 2400 block of Arlington Avenue. An adult male backed his car into the front door of the business to gain entry and stole approximately 100 cartons of cigarettes worth thousands of dollars.

After reviewing video of the incident, police identified a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.
