Pittsburgh Public Safety Officials Detail Election Day Plans
Here's the latest on how Pittsburgh Public Safety departments are planning for the Nov. 5 election.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Recognizing that Pennsylvania is a battleground state in the Nov. 5 presidential election, Pittsburgh Public Safety officials say they are preparing for a busy upcoming week.
Beginning Monday, the day before the election, the city bureau will extend officers' shifts if necessary to ensure maximum coverage throughout the city. Officials said in a release the bureau is working with Pittsburgh Fire, EMS, Emergency Management and Homeland Security to prepare for any contingencies.
"It should be noted that the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police balances the protection of First Amendment rights to free speech and peaceful assembly, while also preserving public safety," the department said in a release. "Civil unrest and violence will not be tolerated."
