Pittsburgh Restaurant Hit With Consumer Alert

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for African Eats Cuisine, on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill, for numerous health code violations.

During a recent inspection, rodent nesting material was found in a restroom. Two dead mice were located in the basement.

Fresh and old rodent droppings were observed on the floors in the rear dining room and the steps leading to the side exterior door.

Old rodent droppings located on the floor in all three restrooms on the first floor and along the walls in the basement. Fresh rodent droppings were found on a storage cold box in the basement.

A black, mold-like-substance was observed inside the keg cooler at the bar. A strong smell also observed emanating from this cooler.

The restaurant's dishwasher is inoperable and was deemed an imminent health hazard. The toilet in the women's restroom does not flush.

Foods also were being stored at unsafe temperatures.

A restaurant with a consumer alert placard is allowed to operate for a temporary period not exceeding 10 days. Another inspection is conducted either prior to the expiration of the temporary period upon request of the eatery owner or on the tenth day.
