Pittsburgh Temperatures To Soar; Many Public Pools Closed

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh will be in the grip of another uncomfortable heat wave this week, but those seeking relief from the temperatures might have difficulty finding an open pool in which to cool off.

After a relatively cool anticipated high temperature of 88 on Monday, temperatures are expected to soar into the low- to mid-90s through Friday. The National Weather Service predicts heat index values could approach 100 degrees.

"You may feel like transitioning to sweater weather," an agency social media post stated. "But it will be more like sweaty weather this week."

But with many school districts already back in session or beginning the 2024-25 year this week, many public pools will be closed entirely or have curtailed hours.

Regarding Allegheny County-operated pools, Boyce Park already has shut down. North Park, South Park and Settlers Cabin will be closed on weekdays this week but will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday before closing for the season.

On Labor Day, North Park and Settlers Cabin pools will close at 3:00 pm for the annual Pooches in the Pool event. South Park wave pool will operate normal business hours.

In the city of Pittsburgh, Highland Park, Moore, and Ormsby pools will be open Monday through Friday and through the Labor Day weekend. Ammon, Riverview, and Schenley will only be open for the weekend and Labor Day.
