The Farmers' Almanac offers a glimpse into the near future with its 2025-26 winter weather predictions.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The weather might be scorching now, but in a few months snow will be falling in the Pittsburgh area. The Farmers' Almanac says to keep your parka and boots handy.

The publication released its 2025-26 forecast and it calls for a season of dramatic swings and widespread wintry weather nationwide.

"The Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and North Central states are set for a classic winter wonderland, while the Pacific Northwest mountains are gearing up for some impressive snowfall totals," the almanac stated.

The publication lists 20 early signs of an impending harsh winter that include the early departure of geese and ducks, heavy and numerous fogs during August, the early arrival of crickets and frequent halos and rings around the sun and moon.
