Police Probe Western PA Amish Buggy Armed Robbery

An Amish man in a buggy was the victim of a roadside armed robbery, police said.

MERCER COUNTY, PA — Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the armed robbery of an Amish man driving a horse-drawn buggy.

According to a release on Monday, troopers from the Mercer County responded Thursday to the robbery on Number 8 Road in Lackawaanock Township.

The victim, a 30-year-old man, told police that a small black sedan stopped in front of his buggy. A man wearing dark clothing and a medical mask approached him with a firearm and demanded his wallet. The victim surrendered the wallet and the suspect fled in the sedan.

While still on the scene, troopers were contacted about a similar incident on Leesburg Station Road. A second victim, a 22-year-old New Wilmington man, said a small black sedan drove alongside his buggy and demanded his wallet. The buggy driver refused and the sedan drove away.

State police are asking anyone with information about the incidents to contact the Mercer barracks.
