Popular Pittsburgh Bar Closing After Nearly A Half-Century
A tavern that has been a mainstay in a Pittsburgh neighborhood for decades is closing its doors.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Brewers Bar, a mainstay on Liberty Avenue in Lawrenceville for the past 45 years, will be closing soon.
The bar's impending demise was announced in a social media post.
"I want to thank everyone who has come out to support this bar, made this your home bar. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I've met some of the nicest people who I now call my friends," owner Carol Held wrote on the tavern's Facebook page.

"To all my staff, past and present, without you Brewers would not have been Brewers. I love you all for all the hard work you have put in to make this bar so special."
A closing date has not yet been determined. Held said the bar could remain open until mid-January.

Brewers is the oldest gay bar in the city.
