Popular Pittsburgh Restaurant Recently Slapped With Consumer Alert

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department recently issued a consumer alert for Over The Bar Bicycle Club, on East Carson Street on the city's South Side, for numerous health code violations.
During an inspection, five dead and decaying mice were found in the restaurant basement.
Mouse droppings were observed on a shelf where cleaned plates are stored. Numerous rodent droppings were found on the top shelf above the kitchen prep table.

Voluminous rodent droppings also were found in the following areas:
- Inside a tote holding bags of tortillas and bags of vital wheat gluten flour.
- On top of a box of single use bags.
- In the closet with the mop sink.
- In the corner of the chest freezer room across from the kitchen.
Six bottles of liquor in the back behind the bar were found with fruit flies in them.

The tabletop can opener blade was soiled with old food debris. The dispenser plate of the ice maker in the basement was soiled with brown and black biofilm. Cutting boards put away on the clean dishes shelf in the kitchen are soiled and greasy.
The consumer alert was issued on Sept. 4 and removed on Sept. 10, health department records indicate.
