Popular Pittsburgh Supermarket Closing

PITTSBURGH, PA — After more than three decades, a popular Pittsburgh-area supermarket will close its doors forever shortly.

The Shop 'n Save on Universal Road in Penn Hills will close shortly. Though a specific date was not announced, the store begins a going-out-of business sale on Thursday, according to the Hartley Family, which owns the store.

"We are closing the independently owned and operated Penn Hills Shop 'n Save location,"a social media post stated. " This store has been part of so many family traditions, grocery trips, holidays and neighborhood conversations. We're thankful to our loyal team members who have supported us.

"This decision was not made lightly. We're doing everything we can to support our employees during this transition and our nearby Holiday Park Shop 'n Save (in Plum) will remain open.

"Thank you for 34 incredible years."
