Popular Restaurant Chain With Pittsburgh Presence Declares Bankruptcy

PITTSBURGH, PA — The fate of Bar Louie on the city's North Shore is up in the air after the restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy for the second time in five years on Wednesday.
The Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing asked for court permission to reject the leases of 14 underperforming and unprofitable restaurants in Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Michigan, Colorado and New Jersey. All have recently closed.
According to Restaurant Business, Bar Louie is deep in debt, listing liabilities of $50 million to $100 million compared to assets of $1 million to $10 million.

Bar Louie's website currently lists 48 locations nationwide. Its only other restaurant in Pennsylvania is in Center Valley near Allentown. According to Restaurant Business Bar Louie had 134 locations before its first bankruptcy filing in 2020.
Bar Louie's second Pittsburgh location at The Waterfront closed several years ago.
