Woman Killed In Crash That Closed Portion Of Pittsburgh Highway

PITTSBURGH, PA — A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down a stretch of Route 28 near Tarentum.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, shortly after 7 a.m., a Dodge Challenger traveling southbound attempted to pass a Ford F-350 but hit the right front bumper. The driver of the Challenger lost control of the vehicle, which went into the median strip, hit the northbound lanes guide rail and went airborne. The Challenger landed on top of a Dodge Dart and then was struck by a Hyundai.
The driver of the Challenger, Sheena Fitzgerald, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the Hyundai, Jonathan Sands, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Route 28 was closed for several hours after the incident, reopening around 11:30 a.m.
