Reggae Event To Bolster Pittsburgh Program Aiding Single Parents
A reggae concert is being held this weekend to benefit a two-year old Pittsburgh nonprofit dedicated to a worthy cause.

PITTSBURGH, PA — You might not have heard about the Pittsburgh Scholar House, but it would be difficult to dispute the quality of its mission. The two-year-old nonprofit attempts to assist single parents complete higher education through financial, transportation and housing assistance.
"Pittsburgh Scholar House is about building generational prosperity for single parents and their children, which comes from the academic achievements of our parent students but also comes from the support of our community," Diamonte Walk, CEO of the scholar house, told Patch.
That support will be evident on Saturday, when Rock Reggae & Relief occurs and national and local reggae bands take the stage at Stage AE on the North Shore. The Piatt Family Foundation's benefit concert annually raises money for a deserving Pittsburgh nonprofit.

This year’s one-day, all ages show will bring together the genres of reggae, rock, funk, and
ska for a one-day all-ages show. The line-up includes the Dirty Heads, The Movement, The Elovaters, Third World, Roots of Creation, and Fubar (Pittsburgh). Pittsburgh disc jockey TJ Harris will be keeping the music flowing in between sets.
“By giving a single parent an opportunity at affordable housing and a sustainable future, a child may find a home," Nick Asta of The Elovaters said. "To us, this is a no-brainer, and helping with our music makes our job feel much more beautiful.”
