Severe Storm Threat Emerges For Pittsburgh Area

The National Weather Service is warning of the possibility of severe storms and isolated tornadoes for Western Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service says the possibility for severe storms exists for the Pittsburgh area later today.

The main threat will be damaging winds. The timing will feature storms entering the forecast area by 7 p.m.-8 p.m. and crossing into the Pittsburgh area by 9 p.m.-10 p.m.

Hail and an isolated tornado also are possible, according to the weather service.

Storms capable of producing heavy rainfall also are possible overnight. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent and rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch are possible.

Showers also are likely on Saturday. The chance of rain is 70 percent.

The weather gets better on Sunday with a forecast of mostly sunny skies and an autumnal high of 67.
