Severe Storms, Isolated Tornadoes Possible For Pittsburgh

The National Weather Service is warning of potentially severe storms in Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A powerful storm system trekking across the country could trigger severe storms in Pittsburgh and throughout Western Pennsylvania on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service said storms with damaging wind and large hail could develop between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. tomorrow. An isolated tornado also is possible.

Gusty winds will develop Wednesday that will continue into Thursday. In Pittsburgh, expect gusts between 30 mph and 40 mph. Winds will be out of the southwest on Wednesday and the north-northwest on Thursday.

Expect temperatures to plummet with the passing of a cold front, with rain showers changing to snow showers Wednesday night. Scattered to numerous snow showers are likely on Thursday, but accumulation in Pittsburgh should be less than half an inch.

The high on Wednesday is expected to reach the lower 60s. The high on Thursday will be in the mid-30s but will rebound into the low- to mid-40s on Friday and Saturday.
