Severe Storms Possible For Pittsburgh: Here's When They Could Hit

PITTSBURGH, PA — A strong cold front will cross the region this afternoon, bringing with it an end to the mild weather and the chance for severe thunderstorms. Isolated tornadoes also are possible, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service says damaging wind will be the main hazard from the storms, which are most likely to occur between 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. In addition, strong wind gusts of as high as 40 mph are likely through Thursday.

The high temperature today will be 60; the chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Expect new rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half of an inch, with higher amounts possible during storms.

Much colder air will flow into the region with the passing of the cold front. On Thursday, expect snow showers, possibly mixed with rain early but becoming all snow after 10 a.m. A half-inch accumulation of snow is possible, with temperatures only reaching the mid-30s.
