Severe Storms Threat Looms Over Pittsburgh This Labor Day Weekend

PITTSBURGH, PA — Mother Nature could labor this weekend to disrupt some of the outdoor activities planned around Pittsburgh for summer's unofficial final weekend.
The National Weather Service says the potential for severe storms exists for the city and much of Western Pennsylvania on Saturday. The primary threats from such storms will be damaging wind gusts and large hail.

Saturday's forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high temperature in the upper 80s. There's an 80 percent chance of precipitation Saturday night.

As much as an inch of rain could fall Saturday and Saturday night.
The storms will bring an end to the oppressive heat that has gripped the area this week and prompted school closings and cooling center openings. Sunday's high temperature will be a more comfortable 84, while the high on Labor Day will only reach the mid-70s.
