Steelers Linked To Surprising Starting QB Candidate
The Steelers could be considering a surprising choice to be their starting quarterback next season.
PITTSBURGH, PA — A new candidate has surfaced for the Steelers' starting quarterback job next season.
As you likely are aware, the Steelers' 2025 starting quarterback currently isn't under contract as both players who started the position last year - Russell Wilson and Justin Fields - are free agents.
Steelers owner Art Rooney II has said the team would like to bring back one of those two. But it was reported last week that the Steelers had made inquiries to the Jacksonville Jaguars about Trevor Lawrence. The team also could be interested in Aaron Rodgers, who is parting ways with the New York Jets.

Another possibility emerged Tuesday, however, when 93.7 The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi said the team is interested in former New York Giants starting quarterback Daniel Jones.
"Source: There’s interest in former Giants QB Daniel Jones inside the Steelers organization," Fillipponi stated on X. "Quote: '[The Steelers] could do a lot worse than Jones.' With the belief he actually is a good fit for Arthur Smith’s offense. And Mike Tomlin’s preference for a mobile quarterback."

Jones, the sixth selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, had a 24-44-1 record and just one winning season with the Giants before his release last November. He completed 64 percent of his passes for 14,582 years and had 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
Jones finished the season as a backup for the Minnesota Vikings.
