Steelers Make National Noise With Win Over Ravens

Here's what sports writers across the country thought about the Steelers 18-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Steelers were playing the team with the NFL's best offense Sunday and failed to score a touchdown. That typically would be a recipe for defeat, but the Steelers eked out an 18-6 win over the Baltimore Ravens at Acrisure Stadium.

Here's what NFL writers across the country thought about the game:

  • Nick Shook, NFL.Com: "It wouldn't be Steelers-Ravens if it didn't include a low point total and a close finish. That was clearly on the menu from the very start of this game, as Pittsburgh forced an early Baltimore turnover and only got three points out of it. That possession alone set the tone on a day in which the Steelers failed to reach the end zone, but were fortunate to rely on kicker Chris Boswell for all 18 of their points."
  • Brooke Pryor, ESPN: "Was this a bad game or a bad sign for Russell Wilson? Despite a stout defensive effort to force three turnovers and two rare misses from Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, the Steelers' offense managed only nine points on the ensuing drives -- and it nearly cost them in Sunday's 18-16 win."
  • Albert Breer, Sports Illustrated: "I said it last week and I'll say it again - this Pittsburgh Steelers team has a knack. For the second consecutive week, Mike Tomlin’s crew was in a street fight. For the second consecutive week, when it mattered most and gloves were dropped, it was Pittsburgh swinging just a little harder."
  • John Breech, CBS Sports: "This win perfectly encompassed why the Steelers should be viewed as a Super Bowl contender: They have a great defense, a great kicker and an offense that has the ability to make big plays when the team needs it."
