Steelers Now 'Offensive Juggernaut': Reaction To Team's MNF Victory
National football writers from across the country share their thoughts on the Steelers' Monday Night Football win over the New York Giants.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The game was closer than most fans likely would have liked, but the Steelers received positive reviews following their 26-18 win over the New York Giants at Acrisure Stadium Monday night.
Here's what national football writers thought about the victory:
- John Breech, CBS Sports: "The Steelers have suddenly turned into an offensive juggernaut with Russell Wilson. Wilson has made two starts and the Steelers have gone over 400 yards in both games, marking the first time in six years they've gone over 400 yards in back-to-back games. Wilson did have a late fumble, but he was mostly sharp (he threw for 278 yards) and did a good job of spreading the ball around with six players finishing with at least two receptions."
- Brooke Pryor, ESPN: "With 278 yards and a touchdown as he completed 20 of 28 attempts Mondaynight, Russell Wilson set a franchise record for most passing yards by a Steeler in his first two games with the organization (542), surpassing Earl Morrall's 504 yards in 1957, per ESPN Research."
- Nick Shook, NFL.com: "The Steelers' special teams made a difference once again. The Steelers have had an excellent special teams unit all season, blocking a handful of opposing field goal attempts to stop scoring opportunities in their tracks. They built on that Monday night, breaking through what had been a field goal festival via a 73-yard Calvin Austin III punt return touchdown."
- Frank Schwab, Yahooo Sports: "The Steelers aren’t pretty, but they’re winning. At 6-2, they lead the AFC North and while the offense still has work to do, it has been solid with Wilson at quarterback. And if all else fails, T.J. Watt usually makes the exact play the Steelers need at just the right time."
