Tornado Hits Pittsburgh-Area Community: Weather Service

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down Wednesday in a Pittsburgh-area town.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Butler County as severe storms rolled through the area on Wednesday.

No injuries were reported in the afternoon incident. Property damage was limited.

The weather service will be on the Center Township site Thursday to survey the damage, estimate the wind speed and detail its path.

This is the seventh tornado in the Pittsburgh area this year and the first in Butler County since 2021, according to the weather service.

The weather service also plans surveys today in White Oak in Allegheny County and McGovern in Washington County.

No severe weather is expected Thursday but expect a damp and dreary day.

As much as a half-inch of rain will fall and the high will be a chilly 55. Showers will continue this evening with a low near 47. The risk of rain will linger into a Friday, with temperatures only reaching the upper 50s.
