3rd Tornado Confirmed In Western PA; 'Take Cover NOW:' NWS Pittsburgh

The NWS has issued severe thunderstorm warnings in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, PA — The National Weather Service has issued additional tornado warnings for portions of western Pennsylvania after confirming that three tornados have touched down Saturday.

According to the NWS, a tornado warning has been issued for areas near Fayette County and Greene County until 9:45 p.m. for Uniontown after a tornado touch-down was confirmed near Uniontown at 9:22 p.m., moving east at 35 mph.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include New Salem, Republic and Fairchance.

Severe thunderstorm warnings also have been issued for areas near Fayette County, Monongalia County, West Virginia, and Preston County, West Virginia, until 10:30 p.m.

At 9:44 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Farmington, or 13 miles southeast of Uniontown, moving southeast at 40 mph. The storm is producing 70 mph wind gusts and nickel-size hail. The NWS is also receiving reports of trees snapped and uprooted. Power outages can be expected as well.

Locations impacted include Farmington, Markleysburg, Brandonville, Chalkhill, Bruceton Mills, Valley Point, Laurel Run, Hazelton, Cranesville, Clifton Mills and Cheat Lake. This includes Interstate 68 in West Virginia between mile markers 16 and 31.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include New Salem, Republic and Fairchance.

At 8:15 p.m., a tornado was confirmed near Wolfdale, 7 miles southwest of Washington, moving east at 30 mph.

The NWS has also confirmed that a strong, damaging tornado touched down just south of Washington and Green Hills.

Flying debris, golf ball-size hail and tree damage are likely in the area including Amity and Green Hills.

Mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed and there may be damage to roofs, windows and vehicles.

Severe thunderstorm warning have been issued for Waynesburg, Masontown and Fairdale until 9:45 p.m. and for Uniontown, Monessen and California until 9:30 p.m.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have also been issued near Allegany County and Garrett County, Maryland, and Mineral County, West Virginia, until 11 p.m. by the NWS of Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

At 10:29 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Piedmont and Westernport, moving southeast at 30 mph with wind gusts of 70 mph.

Residents can expect trees and large branches to fall that could injure people in homes and vehicles as well as damage homes and vehicles. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles as well, warned the NWS.

Locations impacted include Keyser, Westernport, Bittinger, Lonaconing, Piedmont, Deer Park, Elk Garden, Kitzmiller, Barton, Franklin, Luke, Jennings, Deep Creek Lake State Park, Swallow Falls State Park, McHenry, Big Run State Park, McComas Beach, Merrill, New Germany and Dogwood Flats.

Earlier Saturday, the NWS in Pittsburgh said tornado watches have been issued until 9 p.m. for Western Pennsylvania and parts of New York, Ohio and West Virginia.

A flash flood watch also is in effect through late tonight for the region with heavy rain expected.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
