Weather System Bringing 'Catastrophic Flooding' To Impact Pittsburgh
A potent weather system could bring flooding to the Pittsburgh area, meteorologists are warning.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania are about to be impacted by a weather system State College-based AccuWeather warns could bring rounds of torrential rains and "catastrophic flash flooding" to the Ohio and mid-Mississippi valleys.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for much of the the region until 8 a.m. on Sunday. The watch is in effect for Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland and Fayette counties.
The weather service warns that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

According to the weather service, the Pittsburgh metro area can expect rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch overnight; between a half- and three-quarters of an inch on Saturday and between a half- and three-quarters of an inch on Saturday night.
In total, then, that mean rainfall amounts should be between 1.5 and 2.5 inches between now and Sunday morning.
