Winter Storm Barreling Toward Pittsburgh: See How Much Snow Is Coming

A winter storm soon will drop inches of snow on the Pittsburgh metro area.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Pittsburgh area from 7 p.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. on Monday.

Expect snow accumulations of three to five inches and hazardous road conditions for both the morning and evening commutes.

The city's public works department will deploy 60 trucks to pre-treat roads and streets starting at 6 p.m. Seventy trucks will be on the roads at 6 a.m. on Monday.

Residents are asked to avoid parking vehicles on the streets to aid in the rapid treatment of Pittsburgh roadways. Priority will be given to streets that allow access to hospitals, emergency routes, and public safety facilities.

Allegheny County plans to have 28 salt trucks with plows on county-maintained roads. Because of the expected low wind chill, county roads will be treated with liquid calcium chloride. According to a release, the county has 2,100 gallons of liquid calcium chloride in stock, which is more than sufficient to tackle the storm.

South and east of the city, a winter storm warning has been issued in Washington and Westmoreland counties from 7 p.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday. Four to six inches of snow are expected.
