PITTSBURGH, PA — Seldom do you hear two former NFL players with local ties argue over a deceased TV weather forecaster. But it happened on Plum native and former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee's online show.

A.Q. Shipley, a center who played for many NFL teams, told McAfee he did not think much of the late WTAE-TV forecaster Joe DeNardo's forecasts. Shipley hails from Moon, where DeNardo lived and raised his family.

DeNardo, arguably the most popular forecaster in Pittsburgh TV history, was the station's chief meteorologist for more than 40 years. He also was the founder and chairman of the WTAE's charitable Project Bundle Up effort and worked with the Special Olympics and numerous other charities. He died in 2018 at the age of 87.

McAfee quickly shredded Shipley on-air for his DeNardo criticism.

"Girl, you can read the Doppler (radar) like DeNardo, huh?" he said. "Nobody and read the Doppler like DeNardo."

WTAE newscasters said the station will be sending vintage DeNardo swag to McAfee. They also suggested Shipley participate in this year's Project Bundle Up.
