Election 2023: Who Is Running In Tredyffrin/Easttown
Voters will elect five judges, three county commissioners, school board members and row offices.
TREDYFFRIN/EASTTOWN, PA —The 2023 General Election is Tuesday, Nov. 7. Voters in Chester County will select candidates for judgeships, commissioners, row offices, school boards and municipal offices.
Patch provides profiles on candidates for judgeships, commissioners, district attorneys, and sheriff races. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Patch will be posting the unofficial returns at 8 p.m. when the polls close.

County Commissioners
Four candidates are running for three seats on the county board of commissioners.
The three-member board is made up of two members from the majority party, which is currently Democratic, and one member from the minority party, which is Republican.
Both Democratic incumbents, Josh Maxwell and Marian Moskowitz are seeking re-election. The Democratic party endorses both.
Two Republican candidates Eric Roe, 35, a former state representative, and David Sommers, 48, a social studies teacher, are running for commissioner. The Chester County Republican party endorses them both.
Chester County commissioners earn an annual salary of $86,389 and serve a four-year term.
David Sommers (R)
Sommers is a social studies teacher at Bishop Shanahan High School, Downingtown. He was a former legislative representative for the Association of Catholic Teachers Local 1776 and a Republican committeeman for West Goshen Township Area 20. Sommers said he believes in public service and will advocate for fiscally sound, conservative, limited government, Republican policies.

Eric Roe (R)
Roe represented District 158 in the state House, which covers nine municipalities in southern Chester County, for two years.
Roe of West Bradford Township works as a client service manager at a financial firm in Downingtown. He worked as an administrative analyst for Commissioner Michele Kichline.
He also worked in a Homeland Security consulting firm, and for nonprofits. He is fluent in Spanish and French and held a town hall in Spanish.
Josh Maxwell (D)
Maxwell, 39, a lifelong resident of Chester County, previously served as mayor of Downingtown.
As mayor, he oversaw economic improvements, including an Amtrak/SEPTA train station.
He was elected county commissioner in 2019, taking office in 2020.
Maxwell, vice chairman of the commissioners, said his priorities included the county’s first employee group on Equity Diversion and Inclusion; a groundbreaking, community-centered budgeting process; creating a mental health unit, and numerous climate change and open space initiatives.
Marian Moskowitz (D)
Moskowitz of Malvern was elected commissioner in 2019, taking office in 2020. She is the chairwoman of the board. She is secretary of the board of the West Chester University Council of Trustees. In 2021, former Gov. Tom Wolf re-appointed Moskowitz to the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania System of Higher Education. Moskowitz is a member of the Colonial Theater, Phoenixville; People’s Light Theater, Malvern; Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority; and the Schuylkill River Transportation Authority.
She loves to cook, read, walk, and spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Tredyffrin/ Easttown School Board
Ten candidates are running in the November election for five seats on the Tredyffrin Easttown school board.
The district covers 38 square miles in Tredyffrin and Easttown townships. It has more than 7,000 students in eight schools.
They are Conestoga High School, Tredyffrin/Easttown Middle School, Valley Forge Middle School, Valley Forge Elementary School, Hillside School, Beaumont Elementary School, Devon Elementary School, and Hillside Elementary School.
The administration and school board are in the process of considering the construction of a new elementary school in response to a projected increase in enrollment.

In 2024, the district was ranked number 2 out of 495 public school districts in Pennsylvania, according to a study conducted by niche.com. The study rated the district number 5 out of the best places to teach in Pennsylvania.
