The BAY Team substance-abuse coalition in Barrington is getting some national recognition for its beverage server-training program.

The Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) picked the BAY Team’s ā€œAlcohol Server/Selling Training – Make It Localā€ display as the best in the country at its national convention last January.Ā

It’s now featured in a brand-new section of CADCA’s website called the Coalition Ideas Exchange, said Kathy Sullivan, program director.

The display provided an overview of the local prevention coalition’s effort to utilize best practices in developing the training, she said. The training is now being shared nationwide on the CADCA website along with a podcast that features Sullivan and program manager Kristen Westmoreland talking about the training program.

Sullivan worked for years with people with addictions, and she saw the devastating effect on them and their families.

Westmoreland’s interest in substance abuse prevention stems from her background in pediatric medicine.

ā€œI am always interested in kids and prevention,ā€ she said. ā€œIt works.ā€Ā

The BAY Team was cited by the Barrington Town Council at its Monday meeting for the beverage server-training program. The CADCA display was set up in the back of the Council Chamber.
