Here are a few things to do in and around Barrington this long Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 2.
The 16th annual Rhythm & Roots music festival runs from Friday through Sunday – 4 to 12 pm each day -- at Ninigret Park in Charlestown. The lineup of acts on multiple stages includes RI blues legend Paul Geremia. Click here for the complete schedule of acts.Â
Center ACE Hardware, 156 County Road, Barrington, offers a fall lawn care and planting demonstration Saturday morning starting at 10 am. Experts from the Jonathan Green Company will show you how to plant grass and care for your lawn in the fall season.Â

You can spend Saturday morning shopping at the farmers market at the Barrington Congregational Church on County Road; it runs from 9 am to noon. Vendors offer seasonal produce, breads, pastries and other home-grown goods. Among the usual vendors: New Urban Farmers in Pawtucket, Aquidneck Honey in Middletown, Providence Coffee Roasters in Providence, Nettie's Kettle Corn in North Providence, and Seven Stars Bakery in Providence and East Providence.Â
The Rhode Island Inferno ASA fast-pitch girls softball leagues is holding tryouts for four teams on Saturday starting at noon at Pierce Field in East Providence. The 10U and 12U teams will try out from 12 to 1:30 pm; the 14U and 16U teams will try out from 1:30 to 3 pm. For more information, contact Steve Babcock at teampepinferno@gmail.com.

Paddle with a naturalist across the third largest salt marsh estuary in Rhode Island – Hundred Acre Cove on the border of East Providence and Barrington -- on Labor Day morning starting at 9 am. The guided kayak and canoe paddle is part of the RI Land Trust Days – a series of 60 guided walks and events through the green spaces, waters and working farms that are Rhode Island’s 47 land trusts. The paddle in the cove is sponsored by East Bay Rowing and the Barrington Land Conservation Trust. It leaves from the dock at the Walker Farm conservation area in Barrington off of County Road near the merge with Wampanoag Trail.
