Man, 23, Charged After Driving Car With 'Stolen' License Plate

Man spends weekend at ACI after being arrested in a vehicle bearing a license plate from a Providence car.

A Barrington man, 23, was charged by Barrington police last Friday morning, Sept. 20, with driving a vehicle with a license plate reported as stolen.

Alexander J. Moore, of 30 Washington Road, was traveling south around 7 am on Massasoit Avenue near Bowden Avenue when a Barrington patrol officer on a routine traffic post reportedly noticed an Audi sedan driven by him had no front license plate and an unreadable rear license plate.

Moore was pulled over a few minutes later. He told police he purchased the vehicle with the stolen license plate, which was traced to an Audi owned by a Providence man, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

Moore was charged with receiving stolen goods, a misdemeanor, and taken to District Court to be arraigned. The court was closed, however, so he was returned to the Barrington police station to be arraigned by a justice of the peace.

Moore was then taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions to await the opening of District Court on Monday, Sept. 23, to face the charge.
