Teacher's Firing Supported by RI Commissioner

The 2011 termination of a Barrington High School teacher who allegedly helped two students cheat on a test has been supported by Rhode Island’s education commissioner.
Deborah Gist ruled recently on an appeal filed by former BHS teacher Kelly McKenney. The teacher was placed on paid leave in October of 2011 and then fired about a month later.
Gist’s decision, according to eastbayri.com, said: “While we are aware of McKenney’s excellent record as a teacher and her devotion to the education of her students, we much conclude that her actions in undermining the academic integrity of a significant student evaluation establishes good and just cause in support of her dismissal as a tenured teacher.”
