Basil Product Sold At Trader Joe's Stores In RI Linked To Salmonella Outbreak
The contaminated basil was sold at Trader Joe's stores in several states, including Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

RHODE ISLAND — A multi-state outbreak of salmonella typhimurium infections linked to basil sold at Trader Joe's stores has forced the company to remove the product from its shelves, the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) said Thursday.
RIDOH officials said they have partnered with federal officials to investigate the outbreak affecting Infinite Herbs-brand organic basil. These products were packed in 2.5-oz clamshell packaging and sold at Trader Joe’s stores in several states, including Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
According to state health officials, 12 people infected with the outbreak strain of salmonella have been reported from seven states. Seven of eight cases with information available reported exposure to fresh organic basil purchased from Trader Joe's before becoming ill.
