RHODE ISLAND — Monday is Columbus Day, a day off of work or school for many across Rhode Island. Named for Christopher Columbus, the holiday is an important celebration in Italian-American culture.
In honor of the holiday, many businesses and public services will be closed. While it is a federal holiday, only some businesses choose to observe it.

- Trash Collection: Most towns with pickup are delayed by one day. Check with your local public works department if you're unsure.
