Cranston: Coffee With A Cop On Wednesday

The police department invites people to share a cup of coffee and meet an officer in a relaxed setting.

CRANSTON, RI—Given a real possibility most people's contact with a police officer happens on the wrong end of a traffic ticket, or worse, the Cranston police are hoping a shared cup of coffee could be the way to establish a better connection. On Wednesday, the department is hosting ‘Coffee with a Cop.’ It's part of National Coffee with a Cop Day when "informal gathering to discuss current community issues, build relationships and meet face-to-face for a cup of coffee" are happening.

Cranston's event begins at 8 a.m. at Café International, 675 Oaklawn Ave, in the City's Oaklawn section. Everyone's invited.

“Coffee with a Cop and our many other community outreach initiatives have been extremely effective in establishing an open dialogue with the residents and business owners of our city so that we can provide the best police services possible while continuing to foster a mutual trusting relationship,” said Colonel Michael J. Winquist, police chief. "The Cranston Police Department is planning monthly events throughout the City in an effort to receive more one-on-one feedback from the citizens we serve."
