
An inmate at the Rhode Island Department of Correction died at the John J. Moran Intake Service Center at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston on Friday.
The corrections department said in a news release that the inmate was found unresponsive at around 5 a.m. and correction staff immediately began CPR.
The Cranston Fire Department also responded.

“While the incident is not considered suspicious, it is standard procedure that all inmate deaths are jointly investigated by the RIDOC’s Special Investigations Unit, the RIDOC’s Inspector’s Office, Rhode Island State Police and Medical Examiner’s Office,” a DOC spokeswoman said. “This investigation is underway.”
The inmate has not been identified. The department has notified next of kin.
