Investigation Continues Into Crash That Killed Cranston Man: MSP
A Cranston man was killed in a head-on crash on I-195. The police said Friday no charges have yet been filed against the other driver.

CRANSTON, RI -- Massachusetts State Police said Thursday's fatal head-on crash is still under investigation. The victim, John Souza, 38, of Cranston, was identified Thursday by the District Attorney's Office; but although his family spoke to Rhode Island media and confirmed his death, Massachusetts State Police only released information Friday morning and then said he had been "tentatively identified."
State police said the victim was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty and died when his car was hit around 2:10 a.m. on Interstate 195, Swansea. The Jeep burst into flames, and the driver was trapped. He died at the scene. Although the initial report indicated the other car, a 2012 Volkswagen Touareg, "crossed the median into the westbound lanes of Route 195" and hit the Jeep head-on, the police say they're not yet sure how the accident happened.
"The exact route of travel, crossing the median or entering from an exit ramp, which resulted in that vehicle traveling eastbound on the westbound side of Route 195, remains under investigation," police said.
