RI State Police: 2nd Inmate Charged: Corrections Officer Stabbing
A second inmate has been charged in connection with last month's stabbing at the Adult Correctional Institutions, state police said.

CRANSTON, RI—A second inmate at the state prison has been charged in connection with last month's stabbing of a correctional officer. State police allege Joshua H. Becker, 31, of Cranston, provided the weapon which John Carillo, 79, used to stab the prison guard. Both Becker and Carillo are inmates at the Maximum Security Facility.
Carillo was arrested May 11, but at the time, it was unknown how he acquired the metal shank used to stab the officer. He was arrested Wednesday after the Rhode Island State Police Major Crimes Unit assigned to the ACI" wrapped up the investigation, state police said.

At his district court arraignment Wednesday, bail was set at $25,000 with surety, but he was sent back to the ACI because "he also was presented as a bail violator."
Becker is "serving 15 years of a 30-year sentence on charges of first-degree robbery, felony assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with the intent to commit a felony in connection with the armed robbery of a gas station in Smithfield in 2010," state police said.

Carillo is serving a life sentence for the 1973 murder of Correctional Officer Donald Price. He was also charged in this incident.
