Bomb Threat At Blu Prompts Evacuation Friday Night

No bomb was found.

Blu on the Water was evacuated Friday night just before midnight after a man told a security guard for the Water Street restaurant there was a bomb placed in the outdoor bar area. No bomb was found.

According to the police report, police got a call at 11:43 p.m. Friday from the manager at Blu about a bomb threat. When police arrived, they spoke with the security guard, who said a man was looking over the fence at the north end of the property. The guard went over to the man, who said there was a bomb and pointed at the outdoor bar area. He then ran off.

The guard described the man as in his late 20s, about 5’5” tall, dark skinned and having spiked hair. He was wearing a white dress shirt and dark jeans and appeared sweaty and nervous, according to the guard.

Police told Blu’s manager the restaurant would need to be evacuated and searched. The EG Fire Department reported to the area, as did members of the R.I. State Police. Police also consulted with a member of the R.I. State Fire Marshal’s bomb squad.

After the restaurant and outdoor bar area were evacuated, police searched the area but found nothing suspicious. They also searched the surrounding area for the suspect but did not find him.
