EAST GREENWICH, RI—Former state Rep. Joe Trillo is running as an Independent for governor. And he's using a familiar state symbol, The Independent Man, as the theme of his first commercial. Trillo, who said recently he plans to self-fund his campaign, released his first 30-second television spot on Monday.
According to the press release, the commercial is supposed to remind voters he "fought for taxpayers" as Warwick's state rep for 16 years.
“As I say in my commercial, I will cut taxes, reduce regulations and cut state fees that are hurting businesses. I will also stop illegal immigrants from draining an estimated $272 million a year in resources from our residents, neighborhoods and schools.” Trillo went on to say he wants to "untie" police officers' hands so they can do their jobs and listen to the teachers' ideas about improving education.
