Free Skating at Boss Arena: URI’s Boss Ice Arena is offering a family-friendly option for cooling down this week during the above-average temperatures and humidity in R.I. Complimentary skate admission to community members wishing to get out of the heat this week will be offered today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Skate rentals are available for $5.
On Sunday …
Circle of Life Drum & Hoop Circle: Come join East Greenwich's first drumming community for the rest of the summer at St. Luke's Church. Every week there will be the opportunity to participate or just watch others display the powerful connection we have to rhythm. No experience is necessary, just an interest to witness the beauty of what is going on. Below the auditorium there is a courtyard with sounds from a fountain and chimes to provide a little spot to get some sun and solitude. Meditation cushions and yoga mats will be there for anyone looking to stretch out or quiet their mind. This is a potluck-styled event too, so please feel free to bring any food item, rhythmic instrument, mat, hoop and positive spirit you might have to the scene. Starting at noon.
Wood-Pawcatuck/Tomaquag Kayak Tour: Narragansett Indians utilized the rivers for many of their daily needs. On this unique trip, you will start at the Tomaquag Museum in Exeter to learn about traditional uses of the river and examine many of the unique and beautiful museum pieces. Then you will head to the WPWA campus for a paddle up the Wood River to look for plants and animals the Native people may have used. Co-sponsored by the Tomaquag Museum and WPWA. Fee $10 for museum tour and additional $10 to use WPWA kayaks for the paddle. For more information, contact Denise Poyer, denisep@wpwa.org, 401-539-9017.
