Eaton Firm's Support Launches New Oldham School in Riverside
Finishing touches to the former Meadowcrest building -- now the new Oldham School -- were being made on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Finishing touches were being made to the new Oldham Elementary School in Riverside by Eaton Corporation employees and other volunteers on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
The new Oldham school is in the former Meadowcrest Early Learning Center on Bart Street – not far from the old Oldham school building on Bullocks Point Avenue. That building was shut down at the end of last school year by the East Providence Budget Commission because of it was deemed too costly to refurbish.
The charitable work done by Eaton’s workers on the new Oldham School is not complete, according to a story on eastbayri.com. But the company’s financial and human support has been dubbed “truly a gift” by Principal Elaine Allen.

“They contacted us late last spring when they heard we were moving and some of the volunteers have been with us for months,” said Allen about Eaton’s entry into the project. “They told us they had chosen us for their yearly charity project. They picked us out of other places they could have helped around the world. It was really a shot in the arm for the school, especially because we’ve been under the threat of closure for so long.”
