Garret P. Caffrey, Physiologist for Pro Hockey Team
Celebration of the Rumford psychologist's life will be private.

Garret P. Caffrey, Ph.D., of Rumford, East Providence, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Caffrey was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Francis P. Caffrey and Helen L. (Gregory) Caffrey.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen (Hanley) Caffrey, his son Matthew P. Caffrey and his grandson Liam P. Caffrey. He was the father of the late Michael J. Caffrey. He leaves brothers Stephen F. (Sheila) Caffrey, and Gregory W. (Chrystine) Caffrey, brother in-law Joseph M. (Maureen) Hanley, and sister-in-law Susan E. (Russell) McDonald. He was the beloved uncle of Elizabeth and Alexandra Caffrey, and Joe and Maura Hanley. Garret was loved and respected by family, friends and colleagues.
He was a graduate of Saint Raphael’s Academy, The University of Rhode Island, Bowling Green State University, and The Ohio State University.
Caffrey was the team physiologist for the New Jersey Devils in addition to his private practice. He had been affiliated with The Heart Center, The Atrium Fitness Center, and Johnson and Wales University as well as serving on the faculties of The University of Denver and Syracuse University.
Caffrey treasured time spent with family and friends at John’s Pond, Cape Cod, Mass.. He was an avid reader, traveler, New Jersey Devils hockey fan, and loved thoroughbred horse racing.
The celebration of Caffrey’s life and memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Michael J. Caffrey Memorial Library Fund, Myron J. Francis Elementary School, 64 Bourne Avenue, Rumford, RI 02916 would be appreciated.
