How To Recycle Your Christmas Tree And Help East Providence At The Same Time

The Department of Public Works will be collecting and chipping Christmas trees to use as mulch for city projects.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — Christmas is still a few days away, so enjoy your tree for now and get ready to open those presents underneath. But after the holiday, there's a way you can recycle your Christmas tree while simultaneously helping the city of East Providence.

The Department of Public Works will be collecting and chipping Christmas trees to use as mulch for city projects. Residents have the option of dropping off tree or curbside collection.

If you want to drop off your Christmas tree, you can do so at the following locations from Dec. 26 to Jan. 22.

  • Hull St. Playground
  • Pierce Field
  • Central Ave Playground
  • Silver Spring Playground
  • Kent Field
  • Riverside Rec Field
  • Grassy Plain Park
  • Sabin Point Park
  • Carousel Parking Lot

Curbside collection is Jan. 10 to Jan. 22. Keep the following things in mind for curbside pickup:

  • Place trees at the curb for collection.
  • Please remove all ornaments, lights and stands.
  • Trees only please.
  • No wreaths, garland, roping or artificial trees.
  • Trees will be collected by city work crews and chipped.
  • They are not collected with your weekly trash pickup.
