Lawrence E. Donahue, Purple Heart Recipient, Dies at 81

Lawrence E. Donahue, an active and longtime Riverside resident, died on Sunday, Aug. 11. He was 81.

Lawrence E. Donahue, 81, formerly of Forbes Street, Riverside, died on Aug. 11, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Center. He was the beloved husband of M. Lorraine (Enos) Donahue. 

Born in Providence, a son of the late Lawrence J. and Virginia (Mitchell) Donahue, he lived in Riverside for 48 years. 

Mr. Donahue was a Union Painter for 20 years before retiring in 1993. 

Lawrence was a communicant of St. Brendan Church. He was a 3rd degree member of the Riverside Bishop Hickey Knights of Columbus and a 4th degree member of St. Pius Assembly. 

Mr. Donahue was a life member of the Fox Point Boys and Girls Club. He enjoyed fishing and was an amateur sketch artist. 

Lawrence was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. 

Besides his wife of 54 years, he is survived by two sons, two grandchildren, and a sister.
His funeral will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, located at 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
