Shooting In East Providence, Arrest Made In Possibly-Related Domestic Dispute: Police

Police said someone shot three rounds into a home 30 minutes after domestic violence occurred there; Andres Martinez was arrested later.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — East Providence police said they were investigating a shooting and arrested a man in a possibly-related domestic violence incident Tuesday.

Around 3:40 a.m., East Providence police received a call reporting shots fired on Goldsmith Avenue. When officers arrived, they learned the shooting suspect had driven away from the scene. Police said they also learned a domestic violence incident occurred about 30 minutes before the shooting inside the same home.

According to police, the suspect in the domestic disturbance, later identified as Andres Martinez, 19, of Central Falls, assaulted his girlfriend, took her cell phone and stole her car, before leaving.

About 30 minutes later, someone shot three rounds into the victim’s home. Police said one of the rounds entered the victim’s bedroom. None of the rounds struck any of the occupants in the home, according to police.

Detectives later located Martinez in Central Falls. With the assistance of the Central Falls Police Department, Martinez was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Martinez was charged with domestic simple assault and battery, domestic disorderly conduct, and larceny from a person.

The circumstances and identity of the person responsible for the shooting remains under investigation, East Providence police said.
