Teen From Spain Staying With Family In RI Dies In Crash On I-195 In East Providence
Rhode Island State Police say heavy rain played a part in the I-195 crash that killed Jefferson Zaid Lara Romero, 18, of Spain.
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — A teen from Spain who was staying with family in Providence died Sunday in a crash on Interstate 195 in East Providence, Rhode Island State Police said.
State police said the single-car crash happened around 2:20 a.m. on I-195 westbound near Route 114. According to state police, Jefferson Zaid Lara Romero, 18, lost control of his Honda sedan during Sunday's heavy rain.
The sedan veered to the right across three lanes of traffic, left the road, and struck a large rock. State police said the vehicle then traveled left back across three lanes of traffic and struck the high speed barrier.

Zaid Lara Romero, was the only person in the car. State police said he was extricated from the vehicle and was rushed to Rhode Island in Providence. He later died at the hospital.
