What's Open, Closed on Labor Day?
All government offices and many businesses are closed today, Sept. 2, but the usual array of retail stores will remain open for the Labor Day holiday in East Providence.

Today is Labor Day, 2013. The holiday is always the first Monday in September, a day set aside to celebrate the creation of the labor movement and the social and economic achievements of American workers.
“It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country,” according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The day is celebrated as a public holiday in East Providence. But not everybody is shutting down. For some businesses, it will be business as usual.
