EXETER, RI — Because bacteria have returned to acceptable levels at Camp Canonicus, the Rhode Island Department of Health is recommending that the camp's freshwater beach be reopened for swimming.

However, the agency today said it recommends no swimming at Camp Hoffman and Kingston's Camp on Larkin Pond in Kingston because of high bacteria counts.

The state health department said it will continue to monitor beach water quality throughout the summer season. The most up-to-date beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH's beaches telephone line at (401) 222-2751.
