Intoxicated Driver With Pistol And 'Large Knife' Crashed Into Pole: Police

The Glocester man was out on bail for a reckless driving case.

GLOCESTER, RI — An intoxicated Glocester man was armed with a "large knife" and had a pistol in his truck when he crashed into a utility pole Saturday night, police said.

Mark Ouellette, 44, hit the pole about 7:15 p.m. near the intersection of Snake Hill and Pray Hill roads, the Glocester Police Department said in a media release.

Ouellette showed signs of intoxication and agreed to perform a field sobriety test, according to the release.

"When asked if he had any weapons, he stated that he did," the release said. "Officers located and secured a large knife on his person."

Officers also found a loaded 9 mm pistol when they searched Ouellette's truck, according to the release.

Ouellette was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, carrying a weapon while under the influence of liquor or drugs, carrying a pistol or revolver without a license or permit and refusal to submit to a chemical test, the release said.

"Ouellette was arraigned before Magistrate Joseph Ippolito Jr. and was held without bail as a violator," the release said.

Ouellette was out on bond while facing a charge of reckless driving filed in July.
