Flute and Guitar Duo to present "Five Centuries of Dance Music"

A concert of dance music spanning five centuries will be held at the library on Thursday evening October 22, beginning at 6:30pm. The musicians to be featured are John Graham (flute) and Paul Bettencourt (guitar). Musical selections will include classics, tangos and popular songs by Lennon/McCartney and others. Classics will include music by Bach, Handel, Mozart and others. Admission is free and open to the public.

Flutist John Graham is a Westerly native. He taught music in West Warwick public schools from 1970-2000 and 4th grade at St. Thomas Regional in Providence from 2000-2008. He has performed with the Eastern Conn. Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, the American Band and Pipe Dream Flute Choir. Presently he is enjoying his retirement, attending Westerly High School sporting events and playing flute and piccolo in the Ocean State Summer Pops Orchestra.

Guitarist Paul Bettencourt is a 1975 graduate of West Warwick High School and went on to graduate the University of Rhode Island in the fall of 1975 with a degree in Classical Guitar and Music Theory. In 1980, Mr. Bettencourt graduated from Berklee College of Music, achieving a Bachelor of Music in Composition. Professionally named Paul Edward Gabriel, he is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and local record producer, and has been performing live since the late 1970’s with numerous jazz, rock, country, R&B and oldies bands. CD titles include Love, Courage and the Open Road and Basics. Bettencourt also composed 6 pieces for the Brass Quintet and various solo guitar pieces.
